Ingredients:
2 racks of baby back ribs or spare ribs (about 3-4 lbs)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional for extra heat)
2 cups barbecue sauce (store-bought or homemade)
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions:
Prep the Ribs:Start by removing the membrane from the back of the ribs (this ensures tender meat). If you don’t know how, simply use a paper towel to grip the membrane and pull it off.
Season the Ribs:Season both sides of the ribs generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cumin, and chili powder (if using). Pat the seasonings in with your hands to ensure they stick.
Prepare the Crockpot:In your Crockpot, add a little splash of apple cider vinegar and Worcestershire sauce to create a nice base for the ribs to cook in.
If your Crockpot is large enough, you can arrange the ribs in a spiral, or cut them in half to fit more easily.
Cook the Ribs:Cover the Crockpot with the lid and set it to low heat. Let the ribs cook for 6-7 hours (or 3-4 hours on high heat) until the meat is tender and easily pulls apart.
Tip: Check the ribs halfway through cooking, and if you want extra juicy ribs, add a little more barbecue sauce or a splash of water to the Crockpot.
Add Barbecue Sauce:After the ribs are tender and almost done, brush on your barbecue sauce generously on both sides of the ribs. Cover again and cook for an additional 30 minutes on low to allow the sauce to thicken and caramelize.
Serve and Enjoy:Once the ribs are done, carefully remove them from the Crockpot. Slice them into individual pieces and serve them with extra barbecue sauce on the side.
Serve with classic sides like coleslaw, corn on the cob, or mashed potatoes for a complete meal!
Tips for the Best Ribs:
Season well: Don't skimp on seasoning! The rub is what gives the ribs their deep flavor, so make sure it’s evenly applied.
Slow and low: The slow cooking process is key for tender, juicy ribs. Don't rush it, as cooking on low heat yields the best results!
Caramelized sauce: Don’t forget the final step of adding barbecue sauce near the end of cooking! This will give your ribs that perfect glazed look and sweet .
